About the role

This is a full-time, on-site role as a Special Education Teacher serving a school located in Burlington, Vermont. The Special Education Teacher (SPED) will provide teaching and case management services to students, conduct assessments, develop IEP plans, evaluate progress, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (therapists, educators, parents). The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a passion for working with students with special needs.

Full-time school-based opportunity with a 37.5-hour weekly schedule for the 2026-2027 academic year (August 2026 through May/June 2027). On-site, in-person position supporting students in Kindergarten through 4th grade.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and assess individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities
  • Deliver instruction tailored to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students
  • Collaborate with parents, educators, and specialists to ensure a comprehensive approach to student learning and support
  • Monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies to improve outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress to inform ongoing instruction and planning
  • Create a welcoming, safe, and productive classroom environment that encourages positive behavior and learning
  • Provide guidance and support to classroom staff in implementing educational strategies for students with special needs
  • Provide specialized educational services, complete student evaluations, support case management responsibilities, and collaborate with school teams
  • Develop and implement individualized student support plans while monitoring progress and adjusting instruction as needed
  • Partner with teachers, families, and related service providers to promote student growth and success
  • Maintain a balanced caseload within a supportive school environment

Requirements

  • Teaching Certification, Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or higher in Special Education
  • State License as a SPED teacher
  • 1+ years of experience in a school setting preferred
  • Experience working with children
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in use of technology
  • Fingerprint background clearance
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications

Physical Requirements

  • Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.

Pay

Competitive compensation of $50-$60+ per hour, with estimated weekly earnings of $1,875-$2,250+.
