About the role

The Special Education Teacher collaborates with the classroom team, behavioral specialists, occupational, speech, and physical therapists, school districts, and families to develop, implement, and monitor effective, individualized academic and behavioral programming for students.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies students’ needs, based on assessment and prior reports and determines appropriate goals and educational activities based on these needs.
  • Determines appropriate goals and educational activities based on these needs.
  • Develops individualized strategies and interventions when working with students.
  • Utilizes appropriate and professional skills and judgment when assisting students.
  • Utilizes appropriate behavior management skills.
  • Develops specific and appropriate classroom management plans.
  • Plans and implements small and large group instruction.
  • Maintains a regular schedule of communication with families regarding classroom activities and student performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in special education
  • One year successful experience in a special education setting
  • Current special education certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
  • Act 73 FBI, State Act 34-Criminal, and State Act 33-Child Abuse Clearances
  • Current and valid CPR and First Aid certification preferred
