About the role
KidsPeace School in Orono, Maine is seeking a Special Education Teacher who is passionate about individualized instruction, relationship-based teaching, and supporting students with emotional and behavioral needs.
Responsibilities
- Teach academic and functional skills based on each student's IEP and developmental level.
- Create engaging lesson plans that introduce, reinforce, review, and enrich learning.
- Use positive behavior supports and classroom strategies to keep students safe, engaged, and successful.
- Provide individualized instruction and behavior support throughout the school day.
- Supervise and collaborate with Education Technicians in the classroom.
- Write IEPs, report cards, progress notes, and other required documentation.
- Collect data and monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
- Support students with social-emotional learning and daily living skills as needed.
- Participate in team meetings and collaborate with families, clinicians, and residential staff.
- Help create a structured, predictable classroom environment where students can thrive.
Requirements
- Maine DOE Special Education Certification (Cert 282)
- Fingerprinting Certification (CHRC) required
- Bachelor’s degree in Education with Special Education eligibility
- Experience teaching in special education preferred, but supportive mentoring is available
