About the role

KidsPeace School in Orono, Maine is seeking a Special Education Teacher who is passionate about individualized instruction, relationship-based teaching, and supporting students with emotional and behavioral needs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach academic and functional skills based on each student's IEP and developmental level.
  • Create engaging lesson plans that introduce, reinforce, review, and enrich learning.
  • Use positive behavior supports and classroom strategies to keep students safe, engaged, and successful.
  • Provide individualized instruction and behavior support throughout the school day.
  • Supervise and collaborate with Education Technicians in the classroom.
  • Write IEPs, report cards, progress notes, and other required documentation.
  • Collect data and monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Support students with social-emotional learning and daily living skills as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with families, clinicians, and residential staff.
  • Help create a structured, predictable classroom environment where students can thrive.

Requirements

  • Maine DOE Special Education Certification (Cert 282)
  • Fingerprinting Certification (CHRC) required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with Special Education eligibility
  • Experience teaching in special education preferred, but supportive mentoring is available
