About the role
The SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - Learning Support position at our school maximizes the learning experience of students with special needs, focusing on academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living.
Responsibilities
- Conducts assessments, tests, and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and recommend courses of action.
- Participates in PPTs and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
- Affords support in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans for students.
- Coordinates with external agencies, organizations, and institutions as needed.
- Collaborates with administrators and other teaching staff to understand individual student abilities and needs, including those with special needs.
- Serves as a resource for students and parents, offering counseling to promote personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management.
- Maintains effective communication with students and parents.
- Assists in teacher orientation and provides in-service training in guidance.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids, and equipment, and maintains inventory records.
Requirements
- PA State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
- Masters Degree in Special Education preferred.
- Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

- Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, methods, and testing.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
