Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, full approval in at least one area of special education
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven successful experience in working with students with disabilities
  • The ability to engage students actively and meaningfully in their learning

Responsibilities

  • Possess and demonstrate the ability to effectively use instructional strategies that have been designed to benefit all students
  • Monitor and track the implementation of IEP goals, supplemental aides, services and supports
  • Serve as a primary contact for parents and legal guardians for their assigned caseload students
  • Assess student progress and determine the need for additional instructional support
  • Use research-based instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives that are written into each student's IEP
  • Provide direction, and supervision to the para educators that are assigned to work with students that are on their caseload
  • Comply with Board of Education policies and all state/federal rules and regulations
  • Provide other services as directed by the Executive Director of Student Support Services and the assigned building principal
  • Collaborate and consult with classroom teachers in order to meet the needs of their assigned caseload students
  • Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
