Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, full approval in at least one area of special education
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven successful experience in working with students with disabilities
- The ability to engage students actively and meaningfully in their learning
Responsibilities
- Possess and demonstrate the ability to effectively use instructional strategies that have been designed to benefit all students
- Monitor and track the implementation of IEP goals, supplemental aides, services and supports
- Serve as a primary contact for parents and legal guardians for their assigned caseload students
- Assess student progress and determine the need for additional instructional support
- Use research-based instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives that are written into each student's IEP
- Provide direction, and supervision to the para educators that are assigned to work with students that are on their caseload
- Comply with Board of Education policies and all state/federal rules and regulations
- Provide other services as directed by the Executive Director of Student Support Services and the assigned building principal
- Collaborate and consult with classroom teachers in order to meet the needs of their assigned caseload students
- Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations
- Perform other duties as assigned
