Special Education Teacher

About the role

This full-time, on-site Special Education Teacher role is located in Kittery, ME at our Special Purpose Private School, Kittery Kids Academy.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver individualized instruction for students with diverse learning needs, using evidence-based strategies aligned with each student’s IEP.
• Daily responsibilities include planning lessons, adapting curriculum, managing classroom behavior, and collaborating with general education teachers and support staff.
• Absess student progress, maintaining accurate documentation, and participating in IEP meetings with families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Contribute to a supportive, trauma-informed learning environment that encourages social-emotional growth and academic achievement.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of Special Education and Disabilities, including understanding of IEPs and accommodations.
• Strong Teaching experience, preferably at the Elementary School level, with ability to differentiate instruction.
• Excellent Communication skills for collaborating with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Valid state teaching certification in Special Education or eligibility to obtain certification in Maine.
• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field; master’s degree is a plus.
• Experience working with children and youth in therapeutic or educational settings is highly beneficial.
• Ability to maintain accurate records, use educational technology, and follow agency and school policies.
• Commitment to inclusive practices, cultural humility, and supporting diverse learners in a team-oriented environment.

Pay

Bachelor's degree with a starting salary of $58,000 annually and master's degree with a starting salary of $65,000 annually.
