2026-2027 school year assignment in a special needs school setting with potential to extend. Extended Content / Adapted Curriculum classroom for grades 2-4. Small classroom environment (approximately 8 students) supported by 2 Teaching Assistants. 37.5 hours per week, 42-week contract. Start date: August 17, 2026.

About the role

This position offers the opportunity to work in an Extended Content classroom supporting students with unique learning needs in a collaborative environment focused on student growth, achievement, and success. Experience working with student behaviors and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction aligned with the Extended Content Standards and Adapted Curriculum.
  • Develop and implement individualized learning strategies to meet student needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, school staff, and families to support student success.
  • Utilize AAC devices and other specialized educational tools as appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain required educational documentation.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team collaboration.
  • Foster a positive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment.

Requirements

  • Current NCDPI licensure for EC Adapted Curriculum K-12 required.
  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience.
  • Previous experience teaching in an Extended Content and/or Adapted Curriculum setting required.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality educational support to students with diverse learning needs.
