About the role
The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12. The position serves students with a wide range of academic and learning needs and has a caseload of approximately 11 students, including some eligible for the New York State Alternate Assessment.
Responsibilities
- Participate in planning and implementation of student programs including special instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation with general education staff.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, reading specialists, and other staff members to provide support within general education classrooms, facilitate small groups, and deliver differentiated instruction.
- Adapt to the school's established systems, structures, and instructional practices.
- Contribute to improvement efforts in a school identified for improvement.
- Work in an inclusive classroom setting and collaborate with colleagues using collaborative teaching models.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred.
- Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations.
- Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred.
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred, State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred, State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred, Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Current CPR if applicable, TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable, Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
