About the role
The Special Education Teacher provides high-quality educational services to students receiving special education support, participates in the planning, development, and implementation of individualized educational programs, and collaborates with general education staff to ensure student success.
Responsibilities
- Deliver specialized instruction based on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Develop and implement student learning goals and interventions
- Provide instructional support, tutoring, and accommodations as needed
- Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and families
- Monitor and document student progress
- Participate in team meetings, evaluations, and program planning
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district special education requirements

- Self-Contained Special Education Teacher (Grades 3-5)
- Self-contained classroom setting
- Averaged class size of 13 students
- Dedicated paraprofessional support provided
- Focus on individualized instruction and student growth
- Resource Special Education Teacher
- Caseload currently being finalized
- Position will provide support between two nearby schools
- Schools are located in close proximity, making travel convenient
- Opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support diverse student needs
- Middle School Resource Special Education Teacher (6th Grade)
- Serve 6th-grade students in a resource setting
- Support academic achievement through specialized instruction and intervention
- Collaborate with general education teachers and families to drive student success
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (preferred)
- Valid Illinois teaching certification (required per state and district guidelines)
- Minimum one year of teaching experience (preferred)
- Standard Elementary Teaching Certification (preferred)
- Standard Secondary Teaching Certification (preferred)
- Standard Special Education Teaching Certification (preferred)
- Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) Endorsement (preferred)
- Commitment to professional standards and best practices
- Current CPR certification (if required)
- TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray (if required)
- Current health certificate as required by state or district regulations
- Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
