Primary Purpose

Aid students and teachers in special education classes.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment. Educational Aide Certification.
  • Ability to work with children using appropriate interpersonal skills.
  • Background related to working with children and parents.
  • Physical capacity to lift, transfer and assist students with physical disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.).
  • Bus driver training as needed, or as required.
  • Fluent in English (verbal and written).

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    • Adhere to Texas Education Agency and district policies and procedures.
    • Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of the teaching personnel.
    • Assist in preparation, use and maintenance of instructional materials and equipment.
    • Assist with teacher planned activities, exercises and drills.
    • Follow teacher instruction and guidance.
    • Assist in maintaining student records and audit folders.
    • Help students in self-care activities, such as, feeding and toileting needs (REQUIRED).
    • Participate in planned inservice and professional growth activities.
    • Perform other related duties as required.

    • Wheelchair.
    • Ramp.
    • Computer.
    • Variety of office equipment.

    Working Conditions

    • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
    • Physical Demands: Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of the computer. Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment. May require occasional extended hours.
