Location: Jefferson Parkway Elementary School • Available: 2025-26 school year • 190-day contract
About the role
Provide leadership to plan, coordinate, and implement instructional programs that ensure students with Autism reach their highest social, emotional, and academic potential. Teach assigned classes, select and present required materials, and develop a program of study tailored to individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver instruction within state and system curriculum guidelines.
- Integrate classroom technology (audio, video, graphics, research tools) to facilitate learning.
- Prepare lesson plans and provide materials for substitute teachers.
- Maintain a safe, orderly classroom environment and enforce fair behavior rules.
- Attend staff, department, team, or grade-level meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Participate in the state annual evaluation process.
- Perform additional duties assigned by building administrators.
- Comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Evaluate students with disabilities and implement appropriate programming for students with Autism.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in the GOIEP platform, monitor progress, and adjust programs as needed.
- Administer the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA) to eligible students as specified by the Georgia Department of Education.
- Collaborate with district Special Education personnel on classroom structure, scheduling, sensory protocols, and behavior management.
- Guide and support paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
- Provide consultation to staff on the unique needs of students with Autism and appropriate interventions.
- Participate in district training for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Mindset Safety Management – Deescalation, and apply techniques as needed.
- Collaborate with staff and parents regarding student academic achievement and functional performance.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information.
- Follow procedural safeguards and document adherence appropriately.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- State certification for Special Education Adapted Curriculum.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and direct a comprehensive classroom instructional program for students with Autism.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication, interpersonal relations, and counseling/evaluating students with disabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and teaching students with Autism.
- Experience administering the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA).
- Familiarity with the Infinite Campus student information system and the online GOIEP platform.
- Training or experience in Mindset Safety Management deescalation techniques.
