About the role

The POSITION SUMMARY outlines the role of an academic core program (ACP) teacher, who works with students with identified disabilities primarily needing academic support. Essential duties include developing and implementing individual education plans (IEPs), providing interventions, coordinating with general education teachers, and collecting data for progress monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain compliant IEPs and other compliance documents.
  • Implement appropriate programming to ensure students' access to a least restrictive environment (LRE).
  • Provide systematic purposeful instruction tailored to students' instructional levels, integrating district initiatives and grade level expectations with IEPs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to address students' instructional needs and support their involvement in core instruction.
  • Design and implement intervention strategies based on student assessment and evaluation results.
  • Utilize data and progress monitoring systems to inform instructional decisions and make necessary revisions.
  • Design and implement appropriate accommodations and modifications.
  • Train and supervise paraeducators.
  • Provide individualized inclusion opportunities.

Requirements

  • A current Washington state teaching certificate with a special education endorsement.
  • Training or experience in serving students with mild to moderate disabilities.
  • Proficiency in conducting functional behavior assessments and developing behavior intervention plans.
  • Experience teaching students impacted by trauma and neglect.
  • Bilingual proficiency (if applicable).

Qualifications

  • Education and experience: Bachelor's degree in special education or related field, plus a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
  • Additional requirements: Criminal background clearance, Washington state driver's license, proof of insurance, and a current CPR/First Aid card.
