Job Summary

Buffalo Hearing & Speech is seeking Special Education Teachers to join our team at the Rosewood location, working with preschool children in special education classrooms. We welcome teacher candidates who are in the process of obtaining their Students with Disabilities, Birth–2 or All Ages certification. About the Role

We utilize the Floortime/DIR Philosophy, the Pyramid model, and Trauma-Informed Care in our classrooms. The preschool special education teacher designs and implements group lessons focusing on speech, language, and readiness skills, and works as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement goals for each child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Essential Functions

• Evaluates each child in each area of skill development using formal and informal measures upon entrance into the program and provides quarterly updates, including comprehensive reports on children's strengths and areas of need.
• Determines prognosis and appropriate treatment plan.
• Responsible for implementing site-specific curriculum and classroom environment to encourage learning, independence, and skill generalization.
• Designs and implements goals and objectives toward the development of age-appropriate skills for each child as indicated on their IEP.
• Implements appropriate therapeutic programs to facilitate improved cognitive, social-emotional, behavioral, fine and gross motor skills.
• Makes appropriate referrals as needed to achieve positive therapeutic outcomes.
• Maintains contact with parents/guardians regarding their child's progress within the classroom.
• Responsible for children's supervision and safety.
• Attends CPSE and CSE meetings as necessary.
• Sets up and submits high-quality written reports in a timely manner, including evaluation reports, treatment plans, log notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries.
• Maintains patient records in accordance with compliance standards.

Required Education and Certifications

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree in special education from an accredited university or college.
• New York State Certification as a permanent Special Education Teacher or Teacher of Students with Disabilities (Birth-2 or All Ages), or willingness to obtain.

Physical Requirements

• Physical actions may include bending, kneeling, standing, squatting, reaching, printing, crawling, and running.
• Vision, speech, tactical, and hearing senses adequate to perform job requirements.
• Frequent sitting/standing and floor sitting with pediatric patients when appropriate.

Compensation

• Starting Salary for Certified Teachers: $55,001.95
• Starting Salary for Non-Certified Teachers: $45,240.00
