Special Education Teacher (2026-2027 School Year)[Immediate Start]
Grade level: Middle school and high school positions available.
Locations: Multiple sites; new openings posted throughout the year.
Start date: First day of new SpEd Teacher staff training at the end of July.
About the role
Our Mild/Moderate Special Education Teachers are leaders who ensure students with disabilities are welcomed, known, and challenged to achieve their most ambitious post-secondary path.
Responsibilities
- Serve as IEP Case Manager: write data-driven IEPs, develop goals, monitor progress, deliver targeted academic and behavioral interventions, and celebrate success with each student’s team of teachers and family.
- Ensure students receive accommodations and modifications by partnering with general education teachers to implement them with intentionality and consistency.
- Advocate for and champion all diverse learners in the school by participating on the MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Team.
- Manage a support team: supervise and develop paraprofessionals who provide 1:1 support for students as specified in their IEPs.
- Deliver rigorous and engaging content in partnership with general education teaching partner(s), using DSST’s curriculum resources to plan and teach culturally responsive, grade-level-aligned content in co-taught or push-in settings.
- Track and support student growth by holding high expectations for academic success, monitoring and assessing performance through a variety of tools, and guiding instruction to support individual student proficiency.
- Promote positive culture by employing DSST culture and support systems, validating students’ cultural identities, and actively fostering a unified and positive classroom and school culture.
- Cultivate and maintain trusting relationships with students and families.
- Pursue professional development through regular coaching, feedback, and growth opportunities with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
- Contribute to the school community by undertaking additional duties such as supporting student recruitment, after-school tutoring, and other needs.
Requirements
- Teaching license and special education endorsement (required).
- Proven commitment to and experience with serving students of color, students with disabilities, and/or multilingual students (ideal).
- Experience in teaching and implementing positive behavior supports to facilitate learning in academic, communication, executive functioning, behavioral, and social-emotional regulation (ideal).

Pay
$62,000–$80,000 based on aligned years of experience up to 10 years, plus a relocation stipend for candidates joining from 75+ miles outside Denver.

Full-time, school-year position (11+ weeks off each year).
