Responsibilities
- Craft and deliver captivating lessons that engage and energize students across various subjects, enriching their educational journey
- Address the learning needs of all learners in your classroom
- Collaborate with ICS co-teacher to ensure student success
- Support students with IEP’s by maintaining a caseload of students, collaborating with colleagues to complete their IEPs, participating in IEP meetings, and keeping ongoing communications with families
- Plan instruction that creates independent learning opportunities for students
- Drive differentiation and specially designed Instruction to support students with disabilities in an inclusive classroom
- Plan accommodations and modifications as required to meet student needs, ensuring testing accommodations are in place
- Deliver high quality content in the assigned content area integrating Social Emotional instructional practices
- Lead by example, demonstrating your passion for learning and instilling it in our students, nurturing their growth and development
Relationship Building and Student Support
- Create a predictable, physically, emotionally and intellectually safe learning environment for all stakeholders (students, family members, teachers and staff)
- Make space for student voice and choice
- Use the principles of ICS to manage conflicts and redirect undesired behavior
- Manage student behaviors and use mistakes as learning opportunities
- Hold a high bar for effort, persistence and quality of work
- Celebrate progress and recognize student achievement
- Provide support for student intervention planning
Community Engagement
- Create positive relationships by showing care and trust with families
- Provide weekly communication touch points for families when needed
- Maintain communication with families in relation to student IEP needs
- Provide families with the tools and tips that they can work on and support their students at home
- Embrace and celebrate diversity, creating an inclusive classroom environment that reflects the dynamic nature of our community
Professional Responsibilities
- Commit to being reflective and responsive to feedback that will impact your practice
- Participate in school and network wide professional development opportunities including but not limited to, mentorship, coaching cycles, observation and feedback rounds
- Constantly reflect on your practice, content knowledge and pedagogical skill
- Maintain accurate records for grading, progress monitoring and communication
- Collaborate with colleagues and invest in yourself as an adult learner
- Create and champion an inclusive environment where students are valued; fostering a sense of belonging within our vibrant educational community
- Lead by example, demonstrating your passion for learning and instilling it in our students, nurturing their growth and development
Qualifications & Competencies
- Must be certified to teach Special Education in New York State
- A Bachelor's degree in Education or Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Exhibit patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate students toward their full potential
- Possess exceptional communication skills, empowering you to convey complex ideas in relatable terms
- Collaborative attitude toward teaching and learning
- A “whatever it takes” attitude, one that is centered in the notion of “children first.”
