Description

American Traveler is hiring a Special Education Teacher (Learning Specialist / Affective Needs) for a K-5 elementary school setting, requiring an active Colorado teaching license and experience with IEPs, FBAs, and BIPs.

Details

  • Elementary school setting serving K-5 students in a specialized Affective Needs (AN) program
  • Current caseload of approximately 7 students, with potential fluctuation of 1-2 students throughout the year
  • Classroom support includes 2 paraprofessionals within the AN room, plus push-in support to general education classrooms
  • Provides academic instruction in Reading, Writing, and Math, as well as Executive Functioning and Specialized Behavior Instruction
  • Day shift schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:15 AM – 3:30 PM (5x8-hour shifts), 40 hours per week

Requirements

  • Active Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license required and must be in hand at time of consideration — license required if applicable
  • At least 1–2 years of experience teaching or student teaching in a special education setting
  • Experience administering and interpreting educational assessments
  • Experience developing and implementing legally compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) — implementation experience preferred
  • Experience with positive behavior supports, de-escalation techniques, and crisis prevention/intervention strategies
  • Experience using data to inform instruction and decision-making
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, general education staff, related service providers, administrators, and families
  • Experience with trauma-informed practices and restorative approaches within highly structured learning environments

Additional Information

  • Supports students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs through evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices
  • Develops and implements individualized instructional and behavioral supports based on student needs and progress-monitoring data
  • Maintains regular monitoring and reporting of student progress
  • Colorado CBI and FBI fingerprinting clearance is required and should be completed promptly upon contract signing
  • Resume is required for consideration
