About the role

YES Prep is seeking a Special Education Self‑Contained Teacher for the 2026‑27 school year. The role reports to the Special Education Manager and is a 10‑month position. You will work with students in a Life Skills setting, developing rigorous lessons, monitoring progress, building relationships with families, collaborating with teaching assistants, and fulfilling compliance duties such as IEPs and assessments. YES Prep serves 21,650 students across 16 secondary and 12 elementary campuses, with 91% qualifying for free/reduced‑price lunch, 96% Hispanic & African‑American, 99% accepted to a 4‑year university, and 85% first‑generation college students, and is ranked in the Top 100 high schools nationally by U.S. News & World Report.

Responsibilities

• Develop rigorous lessons using alternate curriculum to achieve high student achievement while maximizing inclusive practices and post‑secondary preparedness.
• Set ambitious goals with students, monitor progress, and provide frequent, persistent feedback.
• Track student growth and use data and coach feedback to create student growth plans when needed.
• Build transformative relationships with students and families through regular communication (phone, video conference, email, district‑approved website).
• Create a physical classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
• Collaborate with Teaching Assistants on daily lesson plans and add resources to fit student needs.
• Lead Teaching Assistants in implementing lessons and learning structures (e.g., stations).
• Meet regular deadlines for planning daily lessons, submitting grades, and submitting/filing work samples.
• Work with a team of teachers and leaders to provide consistency, support, and accountability to all students.
