Special Education Resource - Secondary

Position starts ASAP – 0.5 FTE, one-year contract

About the Role

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, you will facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing specialized instruction using research-based interventions and district curriculum. Responsibilities include documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs of individual students, and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. You will provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

Responsibilities

• Write and implement IEP goals and behavior intervention plans to ensure adequate progress of students with mild to moderate disabilities.
• Ensure timelines are followed, meetings are established, and held in a timely and compliant manner.
• Collaborate with general education classroom teachers and related service providers to ensure progress on IEP goals.
• Organize and facilitate developmentally appropriate learning opportunities to improve student academic success and foster smooth transitions.
• Adapt classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning within established curriculum guidelines.
• Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress, communicating expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
• Direct assistant teachers, special education paraeducators, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program.
• Collaborate with special education teachers, related service providers, instructional coaches, and colleagues to provide services as outlined in the IEP.
• Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitor students in various educational environments to ensure a safe and positive learning experience.
• Model conversation, manners, clean-up activities, and listening skills to demonstrate appropriate social and interpersonal behavior.
• Prepare written materials (e.g., weekly newsletters, assessment reports, lesson plans) to communicate with parents, document progress, and meet mandated requirements.
• Attend IEP meetings for students as needed.
• Respond to emergency situations, resolving immediate safety concerns or directing them to appropriate personnel.
• Administer first aid and/or dispense medications to meet immediate health care needs.
• Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, and others to resolve issues or provide information.
• Participate in meetings to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

• Special Education (SPED) teaching license is required.
• Mild/Moderate Support Needs endorsement is required.
