    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Instructional Strategies
      • Work with students, parents, and staff to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
      • Design, write, and use instructional, therapeutic, or skill development programs
      • Ensure comprehension of learning styles and student needs
      • Collaborate with classroom teachers on student IEPs
      • Use data from learning styles assessments to design instructional activities
      • Implement IEP guidelines when presenting subject matter
      • Employ various media and techniques to meet student needs
      • Manage and assign teacher aides and volunteers
      • Use technology to strengthen the instructional process
    • Growth and Development
      • Conduct formal and informal testing to evaluate student success
      • Oversee or ensure personal care, medical care, and feedings of students
      • Sponsor outside activities approved by the charter principal
      • Support the charter's mission and serve as a positive role model
    • Classroom Management
      • Prepare classrooms to enhance learning and aid in the physical, social, and emotional development of students
      • Control student behavior and implement discipline plans
      • Collaborate with classroom teachers on behavior management programs
      • Collaborate with charter and external resources on students' educational, social, medical, and personal needs
      • Ensure necessary and reasonable measures are taken to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
      • Provide input on book, equipment, and material selection
    • Communication
      • Communicate effectively with parents, students, principals, and teachers through conferences
      • Create and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
      • Present information clearly through communication skills
    • Other
      • Participate in professional development activities
      • Maintain accurate Time & Effort records of program activities
      • Engage in faculty meetings and assist in staff committees as required
      • Enrich job skills through professional development activities
      • Abide by federal, state, and charter policies
      • Keep up to date with federal, state, and charter policies

      Supervisory Responsibilities

      • Supervise and oversee Teacher's Aide

      Qualifications

      • Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
        • Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required, special education endorsements for assignments or be able to obtain such. Master's Degree is preferred but not required.
        • Experience Requirements: Previous teaching experience a plus
        • Special Skills/Certifications: Must have valid Texas Teacher Certification required special education endorsements for assignments or be enrolled in an Uplift designated certification course.
      • Required Skills/Abilities
        • Communication Skills: Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
        • Bilingual Skills: Spanish speaking a plus
        • Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), ability to use basic office equipment, and learn other software as necessary.
      • Safety Duties & Responsibilities
        • Know and follow safety rules and procedures
        • Teach safety rules and procedures to others
        • Recognize unsafe actions and situations
        • Warn others of unsafe situations
        • React to emergency situations
        • Report hazardous or unsafe practices to those in a position to correct them
      • Physical Demands
        • Sit and talk or listen frequently
        • Reach with hands and arms frequently
        • Stand, walk, and use stairs occasionally
        • Lift and/or move up to 30 pounds occasionally
        • Close, distance, and depth vision, and ability to adjust focus
      • Work Environment
        • Low to high noise level with frequent interruptions
        • Activity from other employees and students of a distracting nature

        Other Qualifications

        • Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable
        • Eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization

        High Needs Subject Stipend

        • $4,500

        Starting Salary

        • $63,000
