Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university
- Valid certification as a special education teacher
- Demonstrated successful experience in working with special needs students preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a certified special education teacher preferred
- Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, coaching, and collaborating with teachers
Essential Functions
- Successful experience writing, implementing and evaluating IEP goals and benchmarks
- Provide teachers with staff development at all levels in the standards-based IEP process
- Provide technical assistance to teachers in working with special education software management to develop PLAAFPS, IEP goals and benchmarks
- Ability to use multiple techniques for collecting data on IEP goals and benchmarks
- Ability to analyze, interpret and report data on IEP goals and benchmarks
- Collaborate with the assistant superintendent for educational support services, director of special education, assistant director of special education and program coordinator in the IEP process
- Collaborate with the director of special education and the program coordinators in the implementation special education software management systems
- Help facilitate recommended changes to programs based on formal and informal program reviews and local, state, and federal guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned by the assistant superintendent of educational support services and the director of instructional services and support
Working Conditions
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment: Frequent in district-wide travel
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
