Special Education Paraprofessional - Part-Time

About the role

Signal Centers is looking for a Special Education Paraprofessional to work with children in our early education and childcare program and support those with special needs as they work towards their IEP goals.

Schedule

• 2 part-time positions
• Monday – Friday
• 7:30 A.M. – 12:30 P.M.
• 12:30 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• At least 18 years of age
• At least one year of experience working with children 6 weeks – 5 years old in a professional childcare or educational setting
• Willingness to obtain a CDA (Child Development Associate) Certificate or Associate degree for advancement opportunities
• Must complete TBI fingerprinting and a health screening with TB skin test

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with children or adults with special needs
• Knowledge of childcare licensing rules

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in daily developmentally appropriate activities
• Actively support the educational and IEP goals of children in the classroom
• Observe children for signs of illness or sickness
• Treat children, parents, and staff with respect
• Maintain a harmonious working relationship
• Refer parent questions, comments, and/or concerns to the Lead Teacher, Coordinator, or Director/Asst. Director as needed
• Follow confidentiality standards regarding students and their families
• Quickly respond to personal needs of children
• Follow positive discipline procedures as directed
• Primarily responsible for following the TN Diapering process for those students not toilet trained
• Primarily responsible for maintaining mealtime health practices by prepping and cleaning tables and supplies for breakfast and lunch
• Primarily responsible for maintaining weekly and/or daily rest-time laundry
• Primarily responsible for prepping soap/water cleaning solution when needed and filling sanitizing/disinfecting bleach water solution at the end of each shift for the following day
• Assist in maintaining equipment, toys, and materials in a clean, safe, organized, and accessible order
• Assist in preparing supplies/materials for activities
• Other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher, Coordinator, or Director/Asst. Director
• Participate in at least 42 hours of continuing education annually, including mandatory in-service training days
