Special Education Paraeducator - TRY Program

About the role

The Special Education Paraeducator - TRY Program works Monday through Friday, 6.5 hours per day with a 30-minute unpaid break. The start date is September 8, 2026. The pay rate is $28.05 per hour, as per the paraeducator labor agreement.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and support students in classrooms, other learning sites and community settings.
• Absorb and support students in developing self-advocacy skills and independence.
• Maintain classroom behaviors, problem-solve, and discuss expectations of appropriate behavior with students; implement appropriate consequences for misbehavior.
• Collaborate with teachers to determine appropriate levels of student performance, needed modifications, and assignments.
• Assist in implementing daily instructional plans.
• Supervise students in modified learning centers, assist with assignments, monitor, evaluate, and record student behavior, and make recommendations to teachers, staff, and administrators.
• Provide assistance to students with personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, writing, feeding, boarding, and getting off buses.
• Supervise students during lunch, in hallways, and on field trips to ensure orderly conduct.
• Administer, correct, and grade worksheets and tests, record grades, assign work, and take responsibility for small instructional groups or classrooms when the teacher is temporarily absent.
• Prepare classroom materials, file paperwork, fill out review evaluation sheets on students, prepare memos and letters for staff and parents.
• Attend staff meetings to discuss the academic, behavioral, and vocational progress of students with appropriate staff including teachers, psychologists, social workers, and parents and employers in job setting situations.
• Be able to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds, and be able to restrain students when needed, and may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Required Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED.
• One of the following:
• An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
• Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelor's degree, or
• A passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment or a passing score on Paraeducator Online. Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to walk throughout a building.
• May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds.
• Must be able to restrain students when needed.
• May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
