About the role
The highly qualified Special Education Paraeducator Aide III will work in a special education classroom, providing support to teaching staff and students. Responsibilities include assisting with boarding and de-boarding buses, accompanying students to general education classrooms, and performing tasks such as cleaning intermittent catheters, providing first aid, and supporting students with various disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the preparation and feeding of students as needed
- Support instruction in functional life skills
- Modify general education classroom assignments as needed
- Implement behavior plans as outlined in students' IEPs
- Use positive behavior management techniques
- Assist with lesson assignments and reinforce learning concepts
- Maintain discipline and order in various areas of the school
- Communicate with special education teachers about student concerns and observations
- Assist in maintaining bulletin boards in the classroom
- May assist with medication administration when trained
- Assist in the operation of classroom equipment or assistive technology devices
- Record student progress and develop instructional materials
- Modify the general education curriculum as needed
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, completed at least 48 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university, or obtained an associate's degree or higher degree from an accredited college or university. Alternatively, applicants must pass the ParaPro Assessment with a score of at least 460.
Skills
Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Knowledge of special education principles and practices, as well as familiarity with assistive technology, are preferred.
