Essential Functions

  • Absenteeism and punctuality are expected.
  • Supports the special education teacher in assisting students with disabilities.
  • Listens to students read and reads to students.
  • Helps students with make-up work.
  • Aids in individual or group activities, games, flash cards, computers, etc.
  • Aids students in understanding and following the teacher's directions.
  • Enhances the social skills the teacher has taught.
  • Notifies the teacher of student needs.
  • Monitors the progress of students.
  • Safeguards the classroom and assigned areas.
  • Assists with the physical and health needs of the children.
  • Manages inventory of books, materials, and equipment.
  • Prepares the bus/van for each trip.
  • Ensures the bus/van is free of mechanical defects.
  • Notifies appropriate authorities in case of mechanical failure.
  • Follows the bus schedule.
  • Maintains discipline on the bus/van.
  • Transports only authorized students.
  • Adheres to traffic laws.
  • Reports to the proper authority any undisciplined students.
  • Reports accidents and potential safety issues.
  • Ensures the bus/van is clean.
  • Completes other tasks assigned by the teacher or administrator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • First aid/CPR certificate is desired.
  • Pass a DOT physical.

Reports To

  • Building Administrator.
  • Special Education Teacher.

Receives Guidance From

  • Building Administrator.
  • Special Education Teacher.

Job Goal

Aid the special education teacher in providing education and instruction to students with disabilities.

Evaluation

Based on the performance of the Special Education Teacher and the Building Administrator.
