About the Role

Ridgewood Public Schools is seeking a Special Education teacher at Somerville Elementary School.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in reading and writing using multisensory instructional approaches
• Deliver strategic instruction to special education students in grades K-5
• Work in both inclusion and resource settings
• Monitor progress of goals and objectives
• Write PLAAFPs and ensure overall IEP compliance
• Maintain harmonious relationships with students, colleagues, and parents

Requirements

• New Jersey Elementary Teacher Certification
• New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities or Teacher of the Handicapped Certification
• Experience working with special education students in grades K-5
• Experience working in both inclusion and resource settings
• Skilled in strategic instruction in the NJ Student Learning Standards
• Knowledgeable about progress monitoring of goals and objectives, writing PLAAFPs, and overall IEP compliance
• Knowledge of multi-sensory instructional strategies (structured literacy certification preferred)
• Behavior management training and skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated independent initiative for professional growth
• Ability to effectively communicate with teachers, parents, and administrators both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Experience maintaining harmonious relationships with students, colleagues, and parents

Schedule

• Full-time, temporary position
• Start Date: October 5, 2026
• End Date: December 1, 2026 (possibly longer)
