About the role

The State of Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) is hiring for a Special Education Instructor (THS Instructor - Professional) to join our academic education team at Henry Abbott Technical High School, located in Danbury, CT. Endorsements we are recruiting for include: 065 Comprehensive Special Education, PK-12 165 Comprehensive Special Education, PK-12 265 Comprehensive Special Education, 1-12.

Responsibilities

• Case manage assigned students and oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of their IEPs.
• Plan and deliver instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics using appropriate accommodations and modifications aligned to IEP goals.
• Collaborate with academic and trade instructors to co-plan lessons that support differentiated instruction for all learners.
• Maintain accurate and compliant special education records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
• Facilitate PPT meetings and prepare documentation demonstrating student progress and needs.
• Create a structured, positive classroom environment that promotes appropriate behavior, safety, and workforce readiness.
• Monitor student progress and adjust instruction, materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.
• Support behavioral programming by contributing data for Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
• Design, administer, and report triennial evaluations using multiple assessment methods.

Qualifications

• 4 years’ experience in a high school setting (9-12 education).
• Trade career referral experience.
• Professional experience related to special education.
• Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
• Experience with fostering and facilitating learning, classroom management, and behavior intervention plans.
• Experience delivering ideas and objectives through oral and written communication.
• Experience utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google Products.

Skills

Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates, Permits and Authorizations, with a secondary school endorsement.

VS02, derived from the State Vocational Federation of Teachers.
