Qualifications

• At least 90 credit hours of approved study in an educationally related field.
• State of Maine Educational Technician III Certification and CHRC Approval Certificate.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• An understanding of the instructional process and students' needs, including those of students with special needs.
• Knowledge of emergency, health, and safety issues.
• Aptitude or competence for fulfilling assigned performance responsibilities.
• Prior experience in the educational field is desirable but not required.

Job Goal

To assist the teaching staff in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environments where students can fully utilize the instructional program and available resources.

Performance Responsibilities

• Perform instructional tasks including reviewing and reinforcing learning, introducing new learning, devising special strategies, guiding independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work.
• Collect and maintain data in accordance with student plans.
• Supervise small groups of students in community-based programs.
• Administer, score, and record achievement/diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher/content specialist.
• Help students master equipment and instructional materials assigned by the teacher/content specialist.
• Provide input to the IEP process.
• Aid in the preparation of instructional materials including copying, typing, filing, cutting, laminating, bulletin board preparation, classroom calendar, and bulletin board preparation.
• Assist with management functions including playground/recess, bus, study hall, detention, and lunch duties as assigned.
• Participate in ongoing in-service training in the specialty area of employment.

Terms of Employment

• Salary, work year, and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation.

Physical Demands

• Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs.
• Physical Tasks: Bending, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and crouching.
• Lifting: Ability to lift ranging from 25–75 lbs depending on student size and situational needs.
