The Special Education Coordinator - ELA/Math supports students and special education teachers with mild/moderate disabilities in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics across various special education settings within the district.
Organizational Support
- Organize professional development for special education teachers.
- Provide coaching to special education teachers on developing Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) and conducting IEP eligibility meetings.
- Support school teams in ensuring compliance with Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) federal regulations and Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Special Education Rules.
- Coach special education teachers on district-approved ELA and mathematics curriculum and assessment measures.
- Provide ideas for data collection and progress monitoring on IEP literacy and mathematics goals.
- Participate in district-level Professional Learning Committees (PLCs) and collaborate with general education and other district-level committees.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Maintain standards of professional conduct and lead improvements in student learning.
- Show expertise in Utah Core Standards, Proficiency-Based Learning, and the use of technology to enhance student learning.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Establish and maintain collaborative, positive relationships with all stakeholders.
- Display effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
Qualifications
- A valid Professional Educator License from the Utah State Board of Education with a Special Education License Area of Concentration, or an equivalent license in another state or country.
- At least three (3) years of experience in a licensed special education position.
