Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Special Education Endorsements
- Ability to manage time and be self-directed
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Patience to work with diverse populations and language barriers
- Experience with data-driven decision making
- Familiar with the Common Core Standards
Responsibilities
- Collaboration and course planning, skill assessment, and instruction
- Implement the Common Core Essential Elements
- Participate in professional development and implement best practices
- Collaborate effectively and efficiently with others
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
- Administer and develop subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and/or develop individual learning plans
- Assess student progress toward objectives, expectations, and/or goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
- Instruct students to improve their success in academics through a defined course of study
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
- Accommodate the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance from district specialists as required
- Participate in co-teaching situations with a special education teacher assigned
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
