Qualifications/Skills

  • Education/Certification: Master's degree or higher from recognized, accredited college or university, preferred.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position preferred.
  • Valid Texas supervisor's, mid-management, principalship or licensed professional counselor's certification, diagnostician's certificate, licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists as a LSSP, certified in special education, or qualified for a special assignment permit in supervision, mid-management or counseling preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the effective use of technology.
  • Physical capacity to meet needs of students with physical disabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with both adults and children.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher, preferred.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with general and special education teachers, administrators and parents to provide education support for students with disabilities.
  • Provide technical assistance to instructional staff concerning the teaching/learning process.
  • Aid general education teachers in implementing individual student accommodations and modifications as designed by ARD committees.
  • Aid teachers and assistant principals in designing effective behavioral interventions for students experiencing behavioral difficulties.
  • Serve and chair as administrative representative for ARD meetings, as assigned.
  • Provide staff development for campus personnel related to Special Education processes, requirements, etc.
  • Perform functions related to assessment as it relates to the special education evaluation process.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Aid with the needs of students with physical disabilities.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    None

    Equipment Used

    Computer, copy machine and audio visual machines.

    Working Conditions

    • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
    • Physical Demands: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desk and other classroom equipment. May require occasional extended hours.
