About the role
Provide leadership to effectively plan, coordinate and implement programs of instruction that ensure students opportunities to reach their highest social, emotional and academic potential.
Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated.
Select, adapt and present materials required in the teaching assignment within the framework of the content limitations of state and system curriculum guides.
Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students with Autism.
Develop and implement classroom technology which may relate to the use of audio, video, graphics, research technologies and other tools to facilitate learning.
Prepare for classes assigned and show evidence of preparation upon request of the principal or designee.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Provide adequate background information and materials when a substitute teacher is to assume responsibilities.
Maintain satisfactory attendance defined by system or local school handbook.
Comply with conditions stated in the contract of employment.
Comply with the federal, state and local board of education requirements for the development of educationally appropriate instruction.
Responsibilities
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and work cooperatively with all staff members in attaining school goals and objectives.
- Develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal requirements.
- Makes appropriate changes to the student's education program based on monitoring progress on IEP goals frequently.
- Collaborates with district Special Education personnel to implement appropriate programming, classroom structure, scheduling, sensory diet/break protocols and behavior management routines.
- Works collaboratively with and guides/supports paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information.
- Provides consultation to other staff members concerning the unique needs of students with Autism and appropriate interventions.
- Follows all procedural safeguards and documents adherence in an appropriate manner.
- Participates in and provides consultation to the Student Support Team (SST) and the IEP team, as appropriate.
Qualifications
Abides by the mandates of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Evaluates students with disabilities and gives recommendations for a prescriptive program.
Collaborates with staff members and parents regarding the social/emotional learning, academic achievement and functional performance of students.
Works collaboratively with and guides/supports paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information.
Participates in required district training for Mindset Safety Management - Deescalation and utilizes techniques according to individual student needs.
Follows all procedural safeguards and documents adherence in an appropriate manner.
Participates in and provides consultation to the Student Support Team (SST) and the IEP team, as appropriate.
