About the role
The Sun Prairie Area School District is seeking individuals to join their special education departments. The positions are available for full-time, 7-hour days, Monday through Friday during the school year. Interviews will be held in August.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe learning atmosphere for students.
- Supports and facilitates all IEP/504 goals/plans set by IEP/504 Teams and collects related behavioral and academic data.
- Facilitates the inclusion of students in the classroom and community, promoting acceptance of differences.
- Leads small groups and one-on-one instruction under the guidance of a teacher.
- Facilitates student accommodations on assignments and tests.
- Provides student supervision across all educational environments.
- Takes and follows through with directives and instructions from special education contact teachers, making independent decisions when necessary.
- Prepares and maintains detailed notes, plans, and materials for substitutes when absent.
- Provides basic first aid to students, maintains injury/attendant care logs, and participates in training sessions.
- Performs or assists with health procedures such as catheterization, tube feedings, diaper changes, and glucose monitoring.
- Follows all relevant district policies and procedures, including the District Technology Use Policy.
Requirements
- High school graduate with technical training in special education, or any combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- CPR, non-violent crisis intervention, and first aid certification.
- Must meet NCLB standards for this position: completed two years of study at an institution of higher education, obtained an associate's degree, or demonstrated the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Valid driver's license.
Qualifications
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, lift up to 10-15 pounds, and assist with lifting up to 50-80 pounds.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and use hand/eye coordination to assist students.
- Ability to maintain concentration and focus in a noisy environment.
- Ability to assist students with disabilities through lifts, transfers, positioning, restraint, etc., while maintaining personal and student safety.
- Mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percentages.
- Language ability to comprehend, interpret, and prepare various documents and communicate effectively with teachers, students, parents, administrators, police officers, nurses, the general public, and others.
- Knowledge of special education terminology and ability to pass a skills performance task at the level they are supporting.
