About the role
This position provides leadership, coordination, and logistical guidance for planning, implementation, and assessment of the school-based Special Education program. It ensures compliance with all State and Federal Laws, State Department of Education Rules and Regulations, and serves as the point of contact for IDEA educational, compliance, and administrative activities.
Responsibilities
- Provides direction, leadership, and accountability in the curriculum development and implementation of instructional and related services for students with disabilities.
- Models and provides training to teachers in effective instructional strategies and Specially-Designed Instruction.
- Trains, monitors, and evaluates teacher effectiveness (TKES); to include bi-weekly lead 1:1 meetings and observations.
- Plans and delivers professional learning opportunities on a variety of topics related to services for students with disabilities.
- Collaborates with school and district personnel to ensure accurate student scheduling, timeline compliance, and FTE data reporting.
- Led and facilitates weekly special education team meetings; with appropriate redelivery of district/state training materials and/or updates.
- Participates in school-based leadership meetings, district administrative meetings, data meetings, and district Special Education meetings.
- Aids in the special education teacher and admin hiring process, including screening, and holding special education interviews.
- Aids in student scheduling to include: transcript/credit audit in collaboration with the Counseling department, course scheduling, alignment of Special Education Services with course coding, and ILP/IGP completion.
- Collaborates with the provision of Hospital Homebound services.
- Collaborates with district Test Coordinator to ensure accuracy of state/district testing accommodations.
- Serves as Local Education Agency Representative in Special Education meetings.
- Maintains and assists in reporting IEP/Eligibility compliance for k-12 special education.
- Maintains and assists in tracking and monitoring entering and completion of received consents for evaluation and initial eligibility referrals.
- Facilitates personnel matters to include progressive discipline, hiring, and termination.
- Compiles temps/subs/interns/contractor statistics and creates reports as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by school and/or district administration.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Special Education AND Two (2) years of successful leadership experience AND Four (4) years of special education teaching and administrative experience OR Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certificates and Licenses: GA PSC Educational Certificate, Clearance Certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission required. Special Education certification TKES/LKES credentialed desired. Leadership Endorsement, Certificate, or Degree Clear Fingerprint/Background Check Required.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of state and federal laws, and other pertinent laws regarding K-12 Education, Special Education, and IDEA as they relate to applicable duties.
- Knowledge of the Georgia Performance Standards and GADOE Implementation Manual.
- Experience working with large data sets including display.
- Ability to read and interpret student academic data and psycho-educational reports.
- Ability to inspire teachers and school staff to meet school improvement initiatives and goals.
- Ability to communicate well with school personnel, parents, students, and cabinet office staff while complying with the confidentiality requirements in local, state, and federal policies.
- Ability to display a professional attitude in working with school personnel and parents.
- Knowledge of the school improvement process.
- Knowledge of SE testing, evaluation, and assessment.
- Understanding of SE instruction in reading/literacy, math, and behavior interventions.
- Ability to apply understanding of program and activity evaluation strategies and procedures.
- Ability to apply methods, procedures, and strategies of instructional leadership.
- Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations relating to the instruction and curriculum of special education students under the federal regulations and guidelines.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Proficiency using computer-based software and online resources to develop training materials.
- Experience using NWEA MAP, Illuminate DnA, WriteScore, FLVS Global, Edgenuity, Discovery Education, Bright Thinker, Writable, NEWSELA, Legends of Learning, Education Galaxy, Learning A-Z, MindPlay, USA Test Prep, IXL, BrainPOP, Edmentum Exact Path, Moby Max, iReady, Classworks, Nearpod, etc.
- Proficiency with Related Service Platform.
- Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Project, Visio, OneNote, and G-Suite.
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Strong critical thinking, planning, and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate and communicate effectively within a team.

- Partners with school and district personnel to assist in staffing, training, and hiring activities.
- Maintain a professional home office without distraction during 8-5 workday when working from home.
- Consistent access to reliable high-speed internet.
- Valid driver's license and availability of private transportation.
- Ability to travel 25% of the time as required.
