About the role
RSU 73 is seeking a special education teacher to work with students in grades 6-8 who require specially designed instruction for academic and functional skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with a student's academic, functional, and social-emotional needs.
- Coordinate the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
- Evaluate and adapt lesson plans based on students' learning capacities.
- Communicate effectively with parents, counselors, and other teachers about students' progress and ongoing needs.
- Provide proactive behavior interventions for students with significant emotional or behavioral concerns.
- Implement research-based specialized instruction to address IEP goals.
- Employ various teaching techniques and methods to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
- Consult with classroom teachers on classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans, and other similar interventions.
Qualifications
- Maine Department of Education Certification (282 Endorsement).
- Experience working with students with challenging emotional or behavioral needs and at-risk students with academic, social, and behavioral concerns is preferred.
- Fingerprinting and passing a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) for a Department of Education is required.
