About the role

The Special Education Teacher position is responsible for teaching basic social, academic, and home living related skills to students in schools and centers. They collaborate with staff and parents to develop Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in eligibility process and in-take process
  • Affirms student abilities and collaborates with staff and parents to develop IEPs
  • Develops or modifies curricula and prepares lessons and other instructional materials
  • Plans and implements instructional/learning strategies and activities
  • Manages the behavior of learners in instructional settings
  • Coordinates educational activities with other professionals
  • Continually assesses student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and technology
  • Communicates with all school personnel regarding the students' IEPs and progress
  • Maintains confidentiality of information in reference to HIPPA/FERPA and IDEA regulations
  • Manages allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
  • Supervises educational assistants, attendants, and parent and student volunteers
  • Maintains classroom and instructional environment to ensure it is conducive to learning
  • Provides or supervises care and feeding of students as needed

Requirements

Current Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate; valid PA Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: Possession of appropriate degree and certification
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
