About the role
The Fresno County District Attorney's Office invites applications for the position of Special District Attorney Investigator (Extra-Help). Incumbents will conduct confidential investigations into the background of prospective employees consistent with California Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements. This is a civilian investigative position; incumbents are not Peace Officers and will not make arrests or take law enforcement action.
Note: Temporary (extra-help) employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked, are not entitled to benefits, do not obtain permanent status, and serve at the will of the department head.
Responsibilities
Samples of duties include:
- Conducting confidential background investigations for prospective employees
Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
- Fifteen (15) years of full-time, paid work experience in a public law enforcement agency conducting background or law enforcement investigations and interviews
- Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent
As a condition of employment, candidates must undergo and pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination. These investigations include, but are not limited to, employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this role include:
- Conducting detailed and confidential investigations
- Interviewing techniques and procedures
- Understanding of California Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements
Schedule
This is a temporary (extra-help) position with no fixed schedule. Employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked.
Physical Demands
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group I - Light Physical Activity. This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.
