Special Assistant Intern - Operations

About the role

The Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) is seeking a College Aide to support the Citywide Equity and Inclusion (CEI) Line of Service. CEI sets the standards for City agencies to implement the City's EEO Policy, develops and updates the City's EEO and diversity, equity and inclusion trainings portfolio, organizes mandatory EEO best practices meetings, conducts third-party EEO investigations when the agency head or the EEO officer is a party in the matter, promotes compliance with training programs and reporting requirements, designs and maintains compliance tools and reference resources, provides guidance to agencies on emerging issues related to fair and effective employment practices, and guides agencies on preparation of their annual EEO plans as authorized by the New York City Charter Chapter 35, Section 814.1.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and reviews information or recommendations from departmental staff
  • Prepares agendas and fact sheets and secures necessary background material for meetings and conferences
  • Coordinates and schedules meetings including logistics and follow-up
  • Responds to inquiries from the public and government officials in a professional and timely manner
  • Provides administrative support to the line of service and performs other duties as assigned
  • Conducts research and writing on EEO, employment law, policy issues, or special assignments as needed
  • Assists in executing special projects involving cross-agency coordination, data collection, or policy development
  • Helps develop and update training materials for citywide non-discrimination training
  • Assists with case practice reviews by compiling documents, preparing summaries, and supporting review workflows
  • Provides support for high-level investigations, including scheduling, document preparation, and research

Minimum Qualifications

Assignment Level I: Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

Special Note: Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Pay

$17.50 – $18.00

Schedule

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
