Position Overview

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is a criminal justice agency responsible for regulating and enforcing gaming activities in Florida. The Division of Gaming Enforcement consists of sworn law enforcement officers and criminal intelligence analysts handling complex cases involving RICO, money laundering, and illegal gambling.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares work schedules and assigns duties.
  • Develops, updates, and revises departmental policies and procedures.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and directs the investigations of criminal cases.
  • Makes disciplinary or recommends disciplinary actions for staff violations of commission rules and regulations.
  • Assists subordinates in performing job duties.
  • Solves personnel problems within the organization.
  • Prepares reports and directs the handling and maintenance of division records.
  • Serves as the division’s training coordinator for sworn and non-sworn personnel, including developing educational programs, preparing lesson plans, and conducting or coordinating training.
  • Inspects facilities, supplies, vehicles, and equipment to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Reviews contents of written orders to ensure adherence to legal requirements.
  • Cooperates with court personnel and officials from other law enforcement agencies and testifies in court.
  • Conducts raids and supervises the detention of witnesses and suspects for questioning.
  • Meets with stakeholders, law enforcement, and community groups to develop programs and strategies, and support the Commission's goals.
  • Conducts surveillance to obtain information on suspects, co-conspirators, witnesses, and investigative targets.
  • Interviews complainants, witnesses, and suspects to obtain facts or statements and records interviews.
  • Pursuant to section 23.121, F.S., participates in the Florida Mutual Aid program in a law enforcement capacity to assist other government or local agencies as specified by Mutual Aid agreements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current FDLE/CJSTC certification as a law enforcement officer.
  • At least five (5) years of sworn law enforcement experience with a focus on criminal investigation.
  • At least three (3) or more documented years of supervisory experience in the criminal justice field.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).

Additional Requirements of the Position

  • Attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Successful passing of a criminal background check (state, local, and national is required).
  • May be required to have a National Security clearance.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of information learned while working with the Florida Gaming Control Commission.
  • Attends and completes 40 hours of training courses every four (4) years for mandatory retraining necessary to maintain certification as an active law enforcement officer.
