Position Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to apply their engineering and operations knowledge as a Spares Procurement and Compliance Engineer for HP’s PWP business. As a Spares Procurement and Compliance Engineer, you will be working with internal R&D and Operations partners and global suppliers to review product documentation including bills of material (BOMs), assembly drawings, and critical performance specifications and tests, to help identify system failure risks. This information will be used to develop and recommend spare parts and stocking strategies for HP Services and Customers. You will also work to track part quality performance and work with Engineering, Procurement and Suppliers to drive part/product improvements in quality and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and evaluates product designs and bills of materials to identify failure modes and develop recommended spare parts list.
  • Reviews and evaluates supplier production activities for compliance with manufacturing guidelines, quality processes, and standards; provides tangible feedback based on results to improve product quality and mitigate risk of product failure.
  • Maintains and monitors field performance metrics and works with Procurement and Supplier to identify and prioritize issues, develop resolution plans, and drive performance improvements.
  • Supports field failure escalations including part identification, spare part availability, short term mitigations, and alternate part sourcing.
  • Communicates and collaborates with management, internal, and outsourced suppliers, manufacturing, and development partners to develop and implement changes to product or process to reduce defects, improve quality, and lower costs.
  • Executes assigned technical regulatory and conformity requirements (e.g., CCC, CEL, KC/KCC, NOM, ISO/IEC) for PWI products and spare parts in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supports regulatory applicability assessments using defined SOPs and decision criteria; escalates unclear or higher-risk scenarios to senior compliance stakeholders.
  • Supports compliance readiness for NPI, engineering changes, supplier changes, and regional expansions, identifying when regulatory updates or actions are required.
  • Partners with Global Trade Compliance, Logistics, and Regional Operations to resolve compliance-related shipment issues or customs holds.
  • Affords assistance in resolving customs or shipment holds related to technical compliance documentation or certification gaps.
  • Continuously improves individual regulatory knowledge and maintains awareness of updates to applicable standards and requirements.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive experience using engineering tools and software packages to test, design, and evaluate products and manufacturing processes; FMEA and design for serviceability experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of country-specific technical regulations and conformity programs (e.g., CE, CCC, KC/KCC, NOM).
  • Understanding of how ISO and IEC standards are referenced or mandated by national regulations.
  • Understanding of how product design, electrical/mechanical characteristics, and intended use affect regulatory applicability.
  • Familiarity with system-level vs. component-level compliance requirements.
  • Awareness that spare parts may have different compliance expectations than full systems.
  • Knowledge of common conformity artifacts, including: Labelling and marking requirements.
  • Understanding of validity periods, renewals, and change triggers for certifications.
  • Broad understanding of NPI phase-gate processes and readiness criteria.
  • Certificates: Declarations of conformity.
  • Awareness of how engineering changes, supplier changes, or regional expansions can impact compliance status.
  • General understanding of how technical compliance impacts import/export readiness, customs clearance, and shipment holds.
  • Familiarity with working alongside Global Trade Compliance and Logistics teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capability for conducting reviews of material specifications and hardware and electrical component design and manufacturing processes.
  • Test reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to share data and information via documents, drawings, spreadsheets, and other tools.
  • Ability to effectively communicate procurement architectures, plans, proposals, and results, and negotiate options at senior management levels.
  • Strong attention to detail with demonstrated ability to monitor multiple open items and drive to completion.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement to solve problems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management; Quality or Manufacturing Management; Regulatory Affairs or equivalent.
  • 5 - 8 years of experience.

Complexity

Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. The pay range for this role is $105,550 to $161,800 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only).
