About the role

This position is for a part-time Spanish Teacher for the 2026-27 school year at St. Mary of the Mills in Laurel, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instruction aligned with the Archdiocese of Washington Academic and Religious Standards.
  • Create and adjust lesson plans based on Standardized Test scores and other assessment results.
  • Plan lessons that cater to the diverse needs of all students.
  • Incorporate various instructional methods including direct instruction, guide instruction, individual/group practice, questioning, demonstration, and discovery.
  • Administer both formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress and differentiate instruction accordingly.
  • Assign classwork and homework that supports lesson objectives and reinforces learning.
  • Establish and enforce classroom procedures to maximize instructional time and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain a grade book reflecting students' progress and communicate grades and assignments to parents and administration.
  • Inform parents and students about assignments and projects, providing detailed instructions, rubrics, and due dates.
  • Routinely update the school’s grade book portal and use email, notes home, and phone calls to keep parents informed.
  • Hold conferences with parents for academic or behavioral interventions.
  • Produce quarterly progress reports and report cards.
  • Foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions, and practices, and witness service to others.
  • Plan and teach religion classes that align with the Archdiocese of Washington Religion Standards.
  • Attend and lead prayer in the classroom.
  • Participate in school activities and attend Home and School meetings and other school events.
  • Perform non-instructional duties such as carpooling, recess, lunch, and classroom teacher substitution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current teacher certification in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, DC (candidates have 3 years from hire to earn their certification).
  • Experience teaching in an elementary school setting (preferred).

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of child development and supervision.

Skills

  • Ability to plan and deliver effective lessons.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a classroom effectively.
  • Knowledge of Catholic teachings and practices.
