About the role

The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is the fourth-largest school district in California, covering 320 square miles in southern Sacramento County. Under the direction of a site principal, principal’s designee, or other appropriate administrator, the Teacher plans, implements, monitors, and assesses a classroom instructional program consistent with District and Board goals. The role involves teaching core subjects, maintaining classroom standards, collaborating with staff, communicating with parents, and supporting student progress.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, monitor, and assess a classroom instructional program aligned with District and Board goals and student needs.
• Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music using the adopted course of study.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified by state law and district regulations.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to support a functional learning environment; support district and site discipline policies.
• Identify pupil needs and collaborate with other professionals to address health, emotional, social, and learning challenges.
• Participate in curricular and extracurricular programs, assessments, student supervision, and staff/parent meetings.
• Communicate regularly with parents about instructional goals, student progress, needs, and accomplishments.
• Develop and communicate curricular and instructional plans to students and parents, including course descriptions and performance expectations.
• Assess student progress and communicate results to parents at each grading period and when addressing instructional concerns.
• Represent the District and assigned school or program in local and State forums, maintaining a positive and professional image.
• Provide instruction to students with special needs in accordance with IEPs, utilizing support services as appropriate; participate in IEP meetings as needed.
• Maintain student records and prepare required reports in accordance with site and District policy.
• Develop lesson plans in compliance with site and District policy, including plans for substitutes.

Requirements

• Valid Single Subject Spanish Credential.
• Bachelor’s degree including coursework required for credential and student teaching experience.

• Principles, theories, and practices of curriculum development and classroom instruction.
• Classroom procedures that promote student conduct and motivation for learning.
• Child guidance principles and practices.
• Principles of training and providing work direction.
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
• Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other relevant laws.
• Research methods and report writing techniques.
• First aid and CPR certification.
• Current trends and research on child growth and development.
