Description
The Medical Interpreter Lead facilitates clear, accurate, and effective medical and general interpretation for healthcare staff, patients, companions, and visitors. This includes, but is not limited to, interpretation, and complex scheduling. The role involves interpreting complex medical information to patients and/or companions, demonstrating knowledge of National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Interpreters in Healthcare, assessing and monitoring patients' understanding of information conveyed, advising medical personnel about cultural information impacting patient care, understanding various regional accents, linguistic styles, and registers, interpreting with the highest degree of accuracy and completeness in consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation modes, self-correcting, understanding own linguistic limitations, seeking clarification, accepting corrections, maintaining knowledge with medical and general terminology, utilizing a variety of technology, tools, and resources to support departmental workflows, cross-trained to support multiple functional areas, serving as a role model, mentor, trainer, and/or resource to coworkers, serving as a subject matter expert and assuming leadership responsibility during management absence, as requested, supporting an exceptional experience through all customer interactions, ensuring professional, timely, and accurate communication both verbally and in writing, and performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 3 years relevant experience.
- Certificate: Minimum 40 Hours of Professional Medical Interpreter Training.
- Language Assessment: Must successfully pass language assessment through St. Luke's Health System prior to hire.
- One of the following:
- Certified Healthcare Interpreter from Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.
- Certified Medical Interpreter from The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters.
