About the Role

This adjunct instructor position involves teaching face-to-face courses at Jackson College (JC) locations, including the Central campus in Jackson, the Hillsdale and Adrian campuses, as well as prison facilities. Candidates must be available for in-person instruction and able to obtain and maintain annual Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) clearance for teaching at Michigan correctional facilities.

Teaching assignments vary by semester based on enrollment, and there may be semesters with no available assignments. Positions are part-time, and adjunct instructors are employed by EDUStaff, LLC, unless receiving a pension from the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
  • Prepare and deliver instructional materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts, in person and/or online.
  • Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
  • Compile, administer, and grade examinations.
  • Participate in required reporting processes, including grades and student participation.
  • Assist students in connecting to college resources.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Spanish, or
  • Master’s degree or higher in another field with 18 graduate credits in Spanish, or
  • Master’s degree or higher in another field with ACTFL certification in Spanish (the College will assist otherwise qualified candidates in obtaining this certification), or
  • Professional certification from a widely recognized organization as a translator for court or medical settings, or
  • Completion of a Master’s degree or higher in a country where all coursework (lectures, classes, thesis, etc.) was completed in Spanish.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain annual Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) clearance for teaching at Michigan correctional facilities.

Applicants must already be eligible to work in the United States; the College does not support Visa applications. Final candidates will undergo a criminal background check as part of the employment process.
