SpaceWrench 2 (A&P Mechanic)

Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Spacewrench 2 to be part of our Flight Maintenance team, supporting our mission. About the role

As a Spacewrench 2, you will leverage foundational knowledge in maintaining, repairing, and inspecting all parts of the aircraft. You will aid the team in returning aircraft to service, working on base maintenance workloads for spaceline vehicles. You may also perform related duties as business needs require.

Responsibilities

• Complete classroom and On-the-Job training.
• Accomplish assigned maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair work on space flight system vehicles.
• Prepare work records for review in connection with performed work.
• Study maintenance manual content for vehicle systems and structures.
• Initiate service for assigned maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair tasks.
• Integrate into teams that inspect, dismantle, adjust, overhaul, repair, fabricate, remove, and install all aircraft parts, including:
  • Propulsion systems (turbine & rocket)
  • Avionics equipment & instruments
  • Fuel systems
  • Environmental Control Subsystem (ECS) systems
  • Life support systems
  • Mechanical and hydraulic systems
• Perform machine tool work and composite repair in connection with aircraft maintenance tasks.
• Inspect parts, sub-assemblies, and completed assemblies to progress maintenance work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduated from a technical college, recognized aircraft maintenance training program, or military aviation training course.
• Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate (A&P).
• Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
• Experience on narrow body and/or business jet aircraft preferred.
• Experience with composite aircraft (commercial or military aerospace application) preferred.
• Experience with life support systems (crew and passenger) desired.
• Familiarity with procedures applicable to aircraft maintenance phases.
• Willingness to travel and be on-call.
• Qualified to obtain Air Operations Area (AOA) access.
• Ability to understand and adhere to Virgin Galactic policies and procedures.
• Proactive, strategic, and detail-oriented with a strong commitment to safety, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Strong safety awareness, including proper handling of hazardous materials and chemicals.
• Proficiency with computer applications and MS Office suite.
• Familiarity with personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Experience with rocket systems and associated solid and/or liquid propellants preferred.

Physical and Additional Requirements

• Ability to work all shifts and overtime, including weekends.
• Travel 25% or more of the time.
• Must remain in a stationary position for a minimum of 8 hours.
• Physically able to handle items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted.
• Able to maneuver in tight spaces by stooping, bending, or crawling for a minimum of 3 hours.

Schedule

• 4/10 Onsite Monday through Thursday Day Shift (6:00am – 4:30pm)
• 4/10 Onsite Monday through Thursday Night Shift (4:00pm – 2:30am)
• 4/10 Onsite Thursday through Sunday Day Shift (6:00am – 4:30pm)

Pay

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $55,059.00–$74,431.00. The base pay offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience, and may include bonus or long-term incentives, as well as medical, financial, and other benefits.
