Spacecraft Ground Software Developer

About the role

BlackVe, Inc. is a mission-first, dynamic, and innovative national security-focused company dedicated to pushing the boundaries of engineering excellence in support of government customers. We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Spacecraft Ground Software Developer to contribute to the development, implementation, and operation of our spacecraft ground control infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate, and implement ground software for satellite operations, including command and control, graphical user interfaces, data acquisition, storage, and visualization.
  • Build out automation tools for satellite command and control and satellite ground testing activities.
  • Be familiar with and deploy containerized software and data flow solutions in a cloud environment, such as AWS.
  • Integrate third-party ground system components and ensure seamless interoperability between ground software, network infrastructure, and satellite payloads.
  • Assist in real-time mission operations, including troubleshooting and resolving issues with ground control systems to maintain continuous connectivity with spacecraft.
  • Follow best practices, standards, and documentation for ground system operations, focusing on system reliability, data security, and performance optimization.
  • Collaborate with satellite operations, software engineering, and other teams to align ground system capabilities with mission objectives and timelines.
  • Drive innovation in ground system technology by identifying and implementing advanced solutions for data handling, command and control, and network security.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 4+ years of software development, back-end preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python scripting for automating data flows, understanding of networking protocols, familiarity with modern data pipelines and real-time processing.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to stakeholders.
  • Relevant experience working with cloud providers, preferably AWS.
  • Experience with Grafana for data visualization and analytics.
  • Database management experience.
  • Space Systems Experience: Previous experience with space missions and satellite ground control software.

Location and Travel Requirements

This position is based in Albuquerque, NM and requires approximately 10% travel to customer sites, partner facilities, or test/launch locations.
