About the Program

The Southington Public School District operates an Integrated Preschool Program for three-, four-, and five-year-old children (who are not eligible for kindergarten) at the Wrinn Preschool Center located at Hatton Elementary School and Strong Elementary School. The program includes typically developing children who serve as peer models for students requiring special education.

Preschool staff use the Early Learning and Development Standards to prepare children for kindergarten through developmentally appropriate play, fostering independence, self-esteem, and learning in a positive environment.

Schedule

  • Hatton AM Session: 8:35 AM – 11:15 AM
  • Strong AM Session: 9:05 AM – 11:45 AM
  • Hatton PM Session: 12:25 PM – 3:05 PM
  • Strong PM Session: 12:55 PM – 3:35 PM

Three-year-olds attend morning sessions, and four-year-olds attend afternoon sessions. Five-year-old session times are to be determined. Families may choose two, three, or four days per week. No sessions are held on Fridays.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition is based on the number of days your child attends. Community peers are charged a non-refundable annual acceptance fee of $25, in addition to tuition comparable to other nursery schools in town.

Application and Registration

Applications for the community peer program open on the first business day of January and are available at the Southington Public Schools Preschool page. Preschool registration occurs in late spring, and parents will be notified how to register online once their child is accepted.

Accepted students must submit registration forms, including a record of required immunizations. Open houses or tours are available upon request to the Special Education Coordinator.

Special Education Services

Parents of preschool-aged children who suspect their child may require special education services should complete a Preschool Parent Concern form or contact the district to make a referral.

Additional Information

Returning students will receive a renewal form. Parents will be notified by mail in August regarding their child’s teacher, start date, and days per week. Current availability is tracked by the Early Childhood Collaborative of Southington (ECCS).

Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation of community peers.

For registration, preschool, or special education inquiries, contact: 860-628-3200 x10332.
