Sourcing Manager, Fiber & Optics
About the company
We exist to make humanity more free. Technology has historically given people more time for the things they want to do, instead of things they have to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built—but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack: acquiring power, designing and building data centers, and operating them with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators.
How we operate
- Extreme ownership. Full autonomy. Own things end to end, often taking on scope outside your core role without being asked to get things done.
- Velocity. We drive everything forward as fast as possible.
- First principles. Challenge every assumption. Zero analogy thinking, no egos, the best idea wins.
- Love of the game. The frontier of AI is the most interesting problem of our time. We put in long hours at high intensity to push the frontier forward.
About the team
The Supply Chain Team is working on key problems such as:
- Supplying tens of gigawatts of compute, the largest build-out of compute in history.
- Qualifying and dual-sourcing across every critical equipment category, with lead-time and capacity thresholds tied directly to the forward build pipeline.
- Making supply chain the reason we build faster than anyone. Our modular build redefines speed in this industry, and it lives or dies on supply chain.
- Keeping procurement permanently off the critical path so schedule compression stays our advantage, not our constraint.
- Building the most accurate supply chain prediction modeling that exists, using AI to forecast lead times, demand, and disruption with unprecedented precision.
Responsibilities
- Own the fiber and optics category: transceivers, fiber cabling, and connectivity components at hundreds of thousands of terminations per building.
- Negotiate volume agreements on optics where unit price times quantity makes small percentages worth millions.
- Dual-source transceiver types and manage interoperability qualification so second sources are real, not theoretical.
- Forecast optics demand from network designs and keep supply ahead of installation crews.
Requirements
The below is a starting point. We always make space for exceptional people, so if you don’t fit this role exactly, tell us where you would.
- You’ve sourced optics, fiber, or connectivity components at high volume.
- You understand optics well enough (form factors, reaches, compatibility) to catch a spec mismatch before it ships.
- You’ve qualified second-source components and managed the engineering skepticism that comes with it.
- You track consumption against forecast weekly and correct early.
- Bonus: Experience with 800G/1.6T optics markets, cable assembly manufacturing, interoperability testing programs, or commodity price hedging.
