About the role
The Sonographer II is responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to assess and diagnose various OBGYN/MFM conditions and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography.
Responsibilities
- Verify patient identification, review intake, and patient history for information pertinent to scheduled exam.
- Gathers relevant information from the patient by asking questions and reviewing their medical records regarding the patient's health status and medical history.
- Explains the examination procedure to the patient and responds to patient questions and concerns.
- Refers specific diagnostic, treatment, or prognosis questions to the patient's physicians and consult appropriate medical personnel, when necessary, to optimize examination results.
- Performs indicated high risk associated with OB ultrasound exams.
- Evaluate sonograms to identify or rule-out patient/fetus anomalies.
- Works in partnership with the other healthcare professionals to provide the best care possible for all patients, always maintaining an attitude of service and excellence.
- Generate ultrasound reports and documents diagnostic and patient data in the appropriate record, according to established policies and procedures.
- Records diagnostic images and data for use by the interpreting physician in rendering a diagnosis and for archival purposes.
- Administers sound patient care practices according to hospital and department policies and procedures, to ensure the safety of patients.
- Demonstrates safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines, to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Participates in continuing education activities through professional societies and organizations to enhance knowledge, skills, and performance.
- Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent department operations.
- Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.
Requirements
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Sonographer and/or Ultrasound Tech required, preferably in MFM
- Degree or Certification from an accredited Sonography program required
- ARDMS Certification in Obstetrics (OB) required
- Fetal Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone Certification (FMF NT) required
- Cervical Assessment Certification (CLEAR or from FMF) required
- Fetal Echocardiography (FE) Certification required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification preferred
Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical practices, terminology, and reimbursement policies
- Knowledge of and ability to use electronic medical records system; Epic preferred
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, etc)
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to type 40 wpm and operate computers and general office equipment
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must be able to multitask and prioritize work in a fast paced environment
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
- Must be able to read, interpret, and apply policies and procedures
Physical Requirements

- May include working on a special schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends)

- May include lifting up to 25 pounds
