Sonographer I

About the role

The Sonographer II is responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to assess and diagnose various OBGYN/MFM conditions and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient identification, review intake, and patient history for information pertinent to scheduled exam.
• Gathers relevant information from the patient by asking questions and reviewing their medical records regarding the patient's health status and medical history.
• Explains the examination procedure to the patient and responds to patient questions and concerns.
• Refers specific diagnostic, treatment, or prognosis questions to the patient's physicians and consult appropriate medical personnel, when necessary, to optimize examination results.
• Performs indicated high risk associated with OB ultrasound exams.
• Evaluate sonograms to identify or rule-out patient/fetus anomalies.
• Works in partnership with the other healthcare professionals to provide the best care possible for all patients, always maintaining an attitude of service and excellence.
• Generate ultrasound reports and documents diagnostic and patient data in the appropriate record, according to established policies and procedures.
• Records diagnostic images and data for use by the interpreting physician in rendering a diagnosis and for archival purposes.
• Administers sound patient care practices according to hospital and department policies and procedures, to ensure the safety of patients.
• Demonstrates safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines, to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
• Participates in continuing education activities through professional societies and organizations to enhance knowledge, skills, and performance.
• Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent department operations.
• Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.

  Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Sonographer and/or Ultrasound Tech required, preferably in MFM
  • Degree or Certification from an accredited Sonography program required
  • ARDMS Certification in Obstetrics (OB) required
  • Fetal Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone Certification (FMF NT) required
  • Cervical Assessment Certification (CLEAR or from FMF) required
  • Fetal Echocardiography (FE) Certification required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification preferred

  Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical practices, terminology, and reimbursement policies
  • Knowledge of and ability to use electronic medical records system; Epic preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, etc)
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to type 40 wpm and operate computers and general office equipment
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize work in a fast paced environment
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and apply policies and procedures

  Physical Requirements

  • May include working on a special schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends)
