Sonographer
Job Summary
You will utilize advanced sonographic equipment to record detailed images of blood, organs, tissues, and bodily masses, including unborn fetuses, providing critical visual data for diagnosis and prenatal care. You will directly interact with patients, explain procedures, answer questions, prepare them for scans, operate sonographic equipment, monitor patients, select and examine images for pathologies, and present preliminary findings to physicians.
Responsibilities
- Meticulously operate sonographic equipment, adjusting settings and patient positions to ensure clear, diagnostic images.
- Maintain patient safety and comfort during procedures.
- Select and examine images for pathologies.

- Provide clear explanations of procedures, including duration, process, and expectations following completion.
- Assist physicians with interventional procedures such as needle localization, aspiration, biopsies, and other invasive procedures.
- Practice aseptic and sterile techniques as necessary and observe universal precautions.
- Provide patient education as appropriate.
- Select proper equipment, set correct technical factors, and gather supplies before performing procedures.
- Recognize and follow radiation safety standards, including “Image Gently” and “Image Wisely,” and MR safety standards.
- Absorb and assess patient histories, record data accurately, and assist in image interpretation and future patient encounters.
- Perform quality assessments of images obtained, evaluate equipment issues, and report findings to supervisors, managers, or directors.
- Ensure equipment is in working order at the start of the day and before procedures.
- Conduct performance and quality tests on equipment as required, including ACR quality requirements.
- Check supplies for outdates and report shortages, variations, or failures of equipment to supervisors, managers, or directors for follow-up.
- Report any patient injuries or concerns, equipment or supply failures or malfunctions, medication reactions or errors, and visitor or personal injuries or exposures using the CHI incident reporting system.
- Participate in and understand all department, campus, and system quality improvement projects, the ACR accreditation process, Radiation Safety, ALARA, MQSA, and State Regulations as applicable to staff licenses or certifications.
- Be familiar with CMS and Joint Commission requirements and be able to discuss all department processes around quality and environment of care.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in, or graduate of, a Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiology Technology program, or graduate of a post-secondary allied health profession program, upon hire.
- Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire.
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Adult Echo, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Fetal Echo, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Pediatric Echo, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Abdomen, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Breast, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Fetal Echo, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Neurosonology, or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer OB/GYN, within 12 months of hire.
- On-the-job training with a registered sonographer, upon hire.

Pay Range
$32.30 - $48.05 /hour
