About the role
Ludico is an exciting new restaurant concept from Tribeca Hospitality Group, bringing together fresh, vibrant, and transportive European flavors in an elevated yet approachable dining experience. We are seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and hospitality-driven Sommelier to join our opening leadership team. This highly visible role is responsible for developing and leading Ludico's wine program while delivering exceptional guest experiences through thoughtful wine service, education, and hospitality.
Position Summary
The sommelier will assist in all aspects of Ludico's beverage and wine program, including wine list development, inventory management, staff education, and guest engagement. Working closely with the General Manager, Executive Chef, and restaurant leadership team, the Sommelier will curate a world-class wine program that complements Ludico's Coastal European cuisine while driving beverage sales and enhancing the overall guest experience.
Wine Program Essentials
- Maintain Ludico's wine list with an emphasis on Spain, Italy, France, and other world-class wine regions
- Evaluate new wines, producers, and vintages through regular tastings
- Maintain accurate wine notes and tasting profiles
- Oversee all wine storage, organization, rotation, and cellar management
- Ensure proper wine handling, preservation, and service standards
Guest Experience & Hospitality
- Provide personalized wine recommendations and tableside service
- Create memorable guest experiences through exceptional hospitality and wine knowledge
- Build lasting relationships with regular guests and cultivate a loyal wine clientele
- Assist guests with pairings for tasting menus, à la carte selections, and private dining experiences
- Support VIP events, wine dinners, tastings, and special hospitality events
- Maintain a strong and visible presence in the dining room during service
Team Leadership & Education
- Assist in wine education and service for front-of-house team members
- Coach and mentor servers to improve wine knowledge, confidence, and sales
- Follow wine service standards and ensure consistent execution
- Foster a culture of hospitality, professionalism, and continuous learning
Financial & Operational Responsibilities
- Assist in inventory, receiving, and vendor relationships
- Negotiate with distributors and suppliers to maximize quality and value
- Monitor inventory levels and product movement
- Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct regular inventory counts
- Collaborate with the Corporate Beverage Director on promotions and seasonal offerings
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of sommelier experience in an upscale or fine dining restaurant
- Advanced knowledge of Old World and New World wines, with expertise in Spanish, Italian, and French wines
- Formal wine certification such as CMS, WSET, Society of Wine Educators, or equivalent preferred
- Outstanding communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Experience with Toast POS and beverage inventory management systems preferred
- Professional appearance and polished demeanor
- Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including cases of wine
- Ability to frequently move throughout multiple levels of the restaurant, including going up and down stairs
- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and safely move wine inventory throughout the restaurant and cellar
